Protein weight loss is a proven effective method to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. In this program, the amount of carbohydrates the body consumes is reduced to a level necessary to continue normal body function. The goal is to have the body enter ketosis which means the body is burning fat reserves for energy instead of stored carbohydrates. As with any lifestyle change, knowing what to expect and how to deal with these changes is key to surviving and thriving through the first week and beyond of protein weight loss.

The first 48 hours:

In the first two days of protein weight loss, adjusting to new your eating habits and schedule is the most difficult aspect. Your body will continue to burn its remaining carbohydrate reserves so you most likely will the same as before beginning the process. Forging these habits and reinforcing them as part of your new routine is key to sticking to the plan.

Days 3-5:

Days three through five are generally the most difficult as the body is beginning to detox from sugar and you may suffer from withdrawal symptoms. Headaches, nausea and cravings for sugar or carbohydrates are all likely symptoms. During this time, it is vital to accurately record everything that you are eating as your coach can identify foods that may be exacerbating your symptoms. They may also be able to recommend remedies that may help such as a small serving of sodium to help with headaches or an extra Ideal Protein to combat cravings.

Days 6-7:

Fortunately, once the body completes its sugar detox and adjusts to its new routine, the cravings and withdrawal symptoms generally subside. The body has now entered ketosis and is beginning to burn fat reserves for fuel. This is the goal of protein weight loss, and as long as you stick to the program, your body will continue to burn fat until you reach your goal weight.

As with any lifestyle modification, it takes commitment and dedication to achieve the maximum benefit. The coaches at Belle Chasse understand this and know that setbacks and cheat days happen. Protein weight loss is not always easy, but to achieve your best self, it is well worth it.
